Blackberry vs. Windows Mobile vs. Apple

Monday, August 18th, 2008

It has been fairly typical that companies have been faced with a decision on how to support their mobile users with e-mail.  In the past, it was a platform decision where companies had to choose between a commitment to Blackberry’s solution or the Windows Mobile solution that takes advantage of Microsoft Exchange’s integrated “push” technology.  Being first-to-market and having the most mature solution, Blackberry has won a majority of the marketplace.  They have also joined the ranks of  Xerox and Kleenex with a branding advantage.   Blackberry has not only won the initial mobile e-mail war; but, they have garnered the branding name of that type of PDA service for the mobile worker.

With Apple’s introduction of the new iPhone 3G, they have now added a third choice into this market segment.  Apple has typically been the alternative choice for the “hip” professional that has not conformed to the business enterprise IT standards.  Well, now that the new iPhone supports Microsoft’s “push” technology, Apple has positioned itself for acceptance into the corporate enterprise.

So, my question for you bloggers is two-fold:  1) Is this a win for Apple, Microsoft or both?  2) Which solution will you most likely use long-term and why?
